Besides these American and Swiss titans, Unilever also faces global competition from French cosmetics giant L’Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCY) (OTCPK:LRLCF), from Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE:CL) and from Reckitt Benckiser , in the home and personal care spaces, as well as from Danone (OTCQX:DANOY), Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ) and from KraftHeinz (NASDAQ:KHC) in the Big Food arena.

Valeant’s other sale of CeraVe and several other skin care assets to L’Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCY) for $1.3B is even more spectacular. It is almost eight times the $150M Valeant spent to buy these assets between 2008 and 2012 according to this source. “Lost value” indeed. The sales price is ~20x EBITDA, showing that Valeant has received a very good price for these assets. For comparison, the beauty company Estee Lauder (NYSE:EL) trades at EV of 15x EBITDA according to Yahoo Finance.

Absent any debt repayment via cash flow YTD in 2017, Valeant has long term Debt of approx. $28.65B after the closing of the skincare assets to L’Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCY), and slightly under $28 Billion when the Dendreon sale to Sanpower closes and they use those proceeds to pay down debt.

great stocks under 10

Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) has wandered back down into the $60s territory, which offers what I view as a strong buy opportunity for value investors. Too many investors focus on the growth story for Gilead. This desire for growth is driven by one of the strongest bull runs weve seen in the stock market thus far, making it difficult to sit on the sidelines while Gilead waddles slowly downward. Add in a lack of foreseeable catalysts and Gilead seems like a dull investment. You should consider investing in Gilead because:

Gilead is and always will be the number one provider for Hepatitis C treatment. It has more real-world data than anyone can ever hope for with Harvoni, which provides a moat against AbbVies (NYSE:ABBV) G/P regimen. Everyone else is playing catch-up or me too. Investors struggle with lumpy cash flow businesses, and I believe they undervalue them Gilead is the number one provider for HIV treatment which, unlike HCV, is a chronic market. The F/TAF backbone regimens strengthen Gileads foothold in the field. Bictegravir will fight off competition from GSKs (NYSE:GSK) dolutegravir in the future The pipeline, despite the market saying otherwise, has value. The issue is that the value wont be seen until the 2020s, which, I believe, the market is too impatient right now to assign any value to given its temperature (based on a variety of metrics such as Shiller P/E, Buffett indicator, premium over emerging markets, etc.). Hence, this provides a disconnect between price and intrinsic value

While there are no strong, unique catalysts upcoming for Gilead, my belief is that the lack of catalysts provides investors a good price entry as active investors shy away. The exception is the possibility of M&A, which will invariably affect stock price significantly once announced. Given one cannot predict when M&A will come and that the company has a lengthy due diligence process, investors have not counted on this as a reliable catalyst. This also offers the possibility of price disconnect from fundamentals.

In the past year, PayPal has executed a strategy of forming alliances with potential rivals in the payments space. In a prominent example, last year the company announced a tie-up in the U.S. with card issuer Visa (NYSE:V). Earlier this month, the two parties revealed that they’ve extended the arrangement to the Asia Pacific region. The deal expansion means that banks in the region that issue Visa cards can allow their cardholders to check out online wherever PayPal is accepted. great stocks under 10: Toro Company (The)(TTC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Mitchell Clark]

The Toro Company (NYSE:TTC) is one of my favorite small-caps for medium- to long-term investors. Selling specialized equipment for turf management and other industries, Toro is a proven winner that has provided very consistent growth in sales and earnings over the years.

It’s not the fastest growing small-cap business, but it pays a decent dividend and has a loyal customer base in the golf course and contractor markets.

Toro is now offering sprinkler refit equipment for water-starved jurisdictions like California. This company’s share price performance has been exemplary.

After some continued testing of that floor, if-and-when the support should break, the ensuing selloff could materialize in a hurry. Investment Thesis

I was not able to come to a conclusive decision on Synaptics (NASDAQ:SYNA). There are many positives but some negatives also (including the stock’s price tag). Overall, the company is achieving a tremendous amount in a short period of time, but in spite of the selloff in the share price over the last two years, I do not believe there is the necessary margin of safety required from investors.

Not all financial sector stocks are screaming buys right now. In fact, Visa Inc. (V)  is a prominent one that’s showing the opposite type of technical trajectory this week. Visa sold off hard on Monday, declining more than 4% in a move that analysts pinned on investors eschewing card payment companies because of excessive ex-U.S. revenue exposure and the increased attractiveness of actual card issuers, like banks, in a rising rate environment.
