Top 10 Bank Stocks For 2017

The number of customers opening new checking accounts and credit cards with Wells Fargo fell sharply in February, compared to a year earlier, as the bank seeks to contain the damages from a scandal that involved launching accounts withoutpermission.

Wells Fargo said that new consumer credit card applications fell 55% in February while consumer checking accounts declined 43%, compared to a year earlier. Those accounts were down4% and 3% when compared to a month earlier.

The number of consumer interactions in physical branches also declined 11% from a year ago and 1% from the previous month. As many customers transition to online banking, Wells Fargo plans to shutter more than 400 branches through 2018.

In a positive sign, average consumer and small business deposit balances rose 6%, compared to a year earlier. And primary consumer checking accounts increased 1.9% to 23.5 million and increasingly “modestly” over January, the company said.

Top 10 Bank Stocks For 2017: CenturyLink, Inc.(CTL)

Originally a rural telecom, CenturyLink (CTL) has grown via acquisitions to become a major provider of broadband, voice, video, and data.

Very strong results across the board for Dycom, with spending from its top customers only further accelerating. We’re not surprised that FQ3 guidance came in slightly ahead of expectations, as many investors had viewed their initial guidance as conservative. We are encouraged to see organic growth re-accelerating in FQ4 to the mid-teens, with its acquired Goodman asset contributing $15MM of expected revenue (up from $13.4MM in FQ2). Dycom also procured new customer awards in the quarter from AT&T (T), Comcast (CMCSA), CenturyLink (CTL) and Windstream Holdings (WIN) to support further growth. Dycom also repurchased $25MM of shares during FQ2 and authorized an additional $75MM over the next 18 months, giving Dycom $150MM of incremental repurchase authorization through August 2018

Top 10 Bank Stocks For 2017: Lam Research Corporation(LRCX)

Top 10 Bank Stocks For 2017: The Blackstone Group L.P.(BX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS) is probably the most famous example of a company that’s suffered from animal cruelty allegations. Shares of the theme park operator, backed by Blackstone (BX) , have never recovered from the release of the 2013 documentary Blackfish, which argued that orca captivity is inhumane and dangerous to the human trainers of the orcas. SeaWorld announced in March that it would phase out its orca captivity, breeding and live shows. The company’s remaining whales, most of which were born in captivity, will live out their lives at the parks. The news sent SeaWorld shares soaring 9%, but continued attendance drops forced the company to slash its dividend and invest $175 million in new attractions.

Sanchez Energy’s stock has continued to run higher in 2017 and is up nearly 50% since the start of the year. Fueling that surge is the announcement that the company found an exceptional place to put its liquidity to work. In mid-January, the company unveiled a strategic partnership with a private equity giant, Blackstone Group (NYSE:BX), to acquire Anadarko Petroleum’s (NYSE:APC) Eagle Ford shale assets for $2.3 billion. Under the terms of the deal, Sanchez and Blackstone entered a 50-50 partnership to own the Anadarko assets, which consist of 155,000 net acres that currently produce 67,000 BOE/D and hold more than 4,000 drilling locations that are economic at current prices. Sanchez will finance its share of the deal with cash on hand, a new bank lending arrangement, and a preferred equity issuance to Blackstone’s credit arm.

Jack of all trades infrastructure firm AECOM (NYSE: ACM) closed at $27.88 the afternoon everyone thought it would be Clinton by a landslide. Since then, the stock has exploded by 35%. Runs like this for AECOM, while extreme, are not unheard of, as a long-term chart shows quite heavy volatility going back to 2007.

VECO (NASDAQ:VECO) contributed 1.16% to the Fund’s quarterly return, nearly equaling AAN’s contribution in the quarter. VECO appreciated over 48% in the quarter due to an acceleration of orders for its key MOCVD tools. We estimate that VECO currently has roughly 80% global market share for MOCVD tools used to make LEDs.

Top 10 Bank Stocks For 2017: Galaxy Resources Limited (GALXF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

ILC reminds me of Critical Elements [TSXV:CRE] (OTCQX:CRECF) having five projects (CRE has 11), and also of Galaxy Resources (ASX:GXY) (OTCPK:GALXF) by being diversified across brine and spodumene and across three continents. Also some similarity with Neo Lithium’s (OTC:NTTHF) [TSXV:NLC] early stage Argentinean brine project which I recently wrote about here. However, ILC trades at a much smaller market cap of US$8m to that of Critical Elements (US$85m) or Galaxy Resources (US$724m). This is partly due to ILC giving away significant percentages of their projects, and because they are still in the early stages of development.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Timothy Green]

Shares of footwear company Skechers (NYSE:SKX) fell 18.6% in 2016, according to data provided byS&P Global Market Intelligence. A slowdown in growth and a string of mixed and negative earnings reports led investors to push down the stock.

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Skechers (SKX) is higher on Friday following its fourth-quarter earnings report.

    Getty Images

Both the companys quarter and guidance were mixed, with higher-than-expected sales, but a downbeat bottom line. The shoe company said that it earned 4 cents a share on revenue that rose 5.8% year over year to $764.3 million. Analysts were expecting a dime per share in earnings on revenue of $726.2 million.

For the first quarter, the company said it expects to earn between 50 cents and 55 cents a share, below the 66 cents analysts were expecting. However its revenue estimate of $1.05 billion to $1.08 billion was above the $1.05 that analyst are modeling for.

Wedbushs Christopher Svezia reiterated Neutral rating and $25 price target on the stock, arguing that while hes encouraged by top-line trends, theyre coming at a cost. From his note:

Shares will likely trade higher (+9% after hours) given the improved revenue outlook and what may have been a low bar on expectations. However, sales growth is not translating into earnings and the inflection continues to move further out, increasing risk should growth not materialize. We are maintaining our NEUTRAL rating and $25 price target or 14x P/E, a 10% discount to historical averages until we see visibility toward an inflection in earnings growth.

Facebook (FB) and LinkedIn (LNKD) have proven that social media is a viable business. But Twitter’s simplistic “micro-blogging” format carries bigger question marks than its peers.

TWTR has enjoyed a 30% rally since early June, when Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced its $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD). Where’s the, well, link? Some traders were thinking that if social media was in a consolidation mode, TWTR might be next. But there’s been no deal.

Twitter’s upcoming IPO could also be a boon for the Global X Social Media ETF (SOCL), which will likely be the first exchange-traded fund to add Twitter — as early as five days after it begins trading. The ETF, which holds Facebook, LinkedIn (LNKD), Groupon (GRPN), Pandora (P) and other social media stocks, was the first ETF to add Facebook after it went public. The fund is up almost 50% in 2013.

The most powerful investment ideas are the ones that can be easily explained and understood. LinkedIn(LNKD) is an undisputed market leader in remarkably promising areas such as professional networking and online employment opportunities, and this makes the company a top name to buy in 2016 and hold for years to come.

As of the third quarter of 2015, LinkedIn(LNKD) had 396 million registered members around the world, a big increase of 20% versus the same quarter the previous year, and 39,726 corporate solutions customers on the platform, a year-over-year increase of 31%. Individuals and corporations attract each other to LinkedIn in search of opportunities, and this creates a virtuous cycle driving sustainable growth over the long term.

Management is also translating the company’s massive opportunities into rapid revenue growth. Total sales grew 37% to $780 million last quarter, with the acquisition of online learning platform lynda.com representing $41 million of that. LinkedIn’s three growth engines are firing on all cylinders: Talent solutions for corporations grew 46%, while premium subscription sales increased 21%, and online advertising revenue jumped 28%.

LinkedIn(LNKD) is actively investing for growth, so profit margins are hard to predict in the short term. However, the company should be able to combine solid revenue growth and expanding profit margins in the years ahead.

In some ways, gift cards are the equivalent of looking under the Christmas tree to find that your significant other got you socks. Sure, you need socks, some of us maybe even want them, but for the majority of gift-receivers, a gift-giver taking the lazy option often makes the actual gift less special.

That’s what happens when someone decides to give a gift card. It counts as a gift, but in most cases a Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) card (which one in six Americans received in 2015) or any other gift card mostly says either “I don’t know you that well” or “I don’t care about you that much.”

In fact, while more than 50% of gift-givers plan to give gift cards this holiday season, only 27% of people prefer to get them, according to a new report fromBankrate(NYSE: RATE).

“Generally, I think if a family member or a friend gave me a gift card I’d find it tremendously disappointing,” Jenny Chang, 32, an account director at a New York City public relations and marke ting firm, told the financial services company.

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

A band of rebels from a galaxy far, far away has helped Disney finally join the ranks of winning stocks this year.

Shares of Disney (DIS) rose 2% Monday following the strong global box office for “Rogue One” — the first of several planned spin-off movies in the “Star Wars” franchise.

The stock was also added to Bank of America/Merrill Lynch’s so-called “U.S. 1 List” of top stocks for next year. So that probably helped lift Disney Monday too.

As a result of Disney’s move higher, the stock is now up slightly year-to-date.

That means that only two of the thirty stocks in the Dow have completely missed this year’s rally and are still lower for 2016: Coca-Cola (KO) and Nike (NKE).

Still, Disney’s shares haven’t exactly been in Wall Street’s version of hyperspace this year. Disney continues to lag the market — and, more tellingly, nearly all of its major media rivals — due largely to concerns about the health of its ESPN cable network.

day trading training: Terra Nitrogen Company L.P.(TNH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Robert Rapier] While the MLP space is dominated by the oil and gas sector, in last week’s article we began to explore some of the more exotic master limited partnership offerings. This week we continue our exploration of nontraditional MLPs by looking at the partnerships supplying fertilizer.

Rentech (Nasdaq: RTK) has been around for more than a decade, and it has shifted strategies several times. Full disclosure: Rentech’s Chief Technology Officer Harold Wright is a former manager of mine when we were both at ConocoPhillips, and I have visited Rentech’s facility in Commerce City, Colorado.

For most of Rentech’s existence, the company has sought to commercialize alternative fuels. At one time it had ambitions to build a large coal-to-liquids (CTL) plant, but federal legislation ultimately nudged it instead into the biomass-to-liquids (BTL) space. The company did build a BTL demonstration plant, but ultimately shut it down and has now refocused its effor ts on becoming “one of the largest wood processing companies in the world.”

During its interesting journey as a company, Rentech acquired two ammonia nitrogen fertilizer facilities, which turned out to be a profit center that funded the alternative energy research. In November 2011, Rentech spun off this fertilizer business into an MLP called Rentech Nitrogen Partners LP (NYSE: RNF).

In the months leading to the spin-off, RTK’s market capitalization was about $200 million. Rentech maintained 60 percent ownership of RNF, and three months after the spin-off RTK’s market cap had risen to $400 million, while investors had bid RNF up to $1 billion. Interestingly, RTK’s share of RNF was worth more than RTK’s entire market cap, a situation that persists. The market currently values Rentech at $482 million, while the valuation of Rentech Nitrogen Partners makes RTK’s 60 percent stake in RNF worth slightly more than $600 million — another illu

Lear also sees strong “upside potential” forConcho Resources (CXO), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) and Newfield Exploration (NFX) as well performance improves in the Permian/STACK, and also writes positively on Devon Energy (DVN).

Our peer group is up an average of 46% over the past 4 weeks in response to a 30% rebound in the 12-month strip NYMEX oil price. Some of the largest gainers include Hold and Sell rated stocks that we would not chase such asDenbury Resources (Sell, +138%), Halcon Resources (HK) (Sell, +147%), Jones Energy (JONE) (Hold, +166%), Rex Energy (REXX) (Sell, +60%), Sanchez Energy (SN) (Hold, +93%), Ultra Petroleum (UPL) (Sell, +61%), andWhiting Petroleum (Hold, +103%), which have outperformed the E&P Index (+32%) over the same time period. Balance sheets and/or well level returns remain challenged for these companies despite improved oil prices. While we believe oil markets should re-balance over the next 12 to 15 months, the recent recovery to $40 could reverse during 2Q16 as bloated inventories continue to rise, new volumes from Iran pressure an oversupplied market, and a highly anticipated decline in non-OPEC supply (especially in the U.S.), is not as steep as expected. The risk of an oil price retracement, which would significantly pressure the recent out-performers, outweighs the upside in these stocks, in our view. However, we are raising our target prices on Buy ratedAnadarko Petroleum ($54 from $48), Concho Resources (CXO) ($120 from $109), Matador Resources (MTDR) ($22 from $21),Noble Energy (NBL) ($40 from $34), SM Energy (SM) ($22 from $15), Rice Energy ($14 from $12), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) ($155 from $135),Continental Resources ($32 from $28), and Parsley Energy (PE) ($24 from $23). We believe our Buy-rated stocks are better positioned to weather challenging oil markets.

Large Caps. Our E&P coverage is pricing in $61/bbl WTI and $3.30 gas, and with a lower crude forecast the group is looking less compelling. We argue names that continue to demonstrate resource improvement at the low-end of the cost curve, namely in the Permian and STACK remain attractive, such as Concho Resources (CXO), Devon Energy (DVN), Newfield Exploration (NFX) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD). Noble (NBL) remains a compelling value, though has yet to commit to an accelerated US onshore drilling program.

day trading training: Medtronic plc(MDT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Of course, while individual consumers want a heart-monitoring wearable that really works, hospitals also want better and easier monitoring technologies. Biotricity will supply that. Not only is bioflux wire-free, it can be utilized away from a hospital and deliver vital stats to caregivers remotely, improving the overall outcome… a reality more and more insurers are watching, as it impacts the bottom line. As was noted in Cardiovascular Business just a few weeks ago, the use of mobile heart monitors not only improves outcomes, but reduces costs. The website explained “The mean hospitalization cost per patient-year was $8,720 for patients using remote monitoring and $12,423 for patients who did not use remote monitoring.”

And it’s to that end – the insurer’s side of the business – that Biotricity becomes a very interesting investment opportunity.

Unlike Fitbit and the Apple watch, Biotricity developed its bioflux technology with insurance reimbursement in mind, ensuring that the equipment meets insurance companies’ standards for a reimbursable device. With consumers off the hook at the same time insurers are increasingly interested in better outcomes (which is cheaper in the long run), Biotricity has taken the idea of healthcare-oriented wearables from a consumer novelty to a clinical tool, and will penetrate the market with insurers’ blessings. It’s a small but critical element to the company’s growth outlook. It’s more akin to Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which makes glucose monitors, or Medtronic PLC (NYSE:MDT) than it is to Fitbit or Apple, though it nicely bridges the gap between form and function.

When most investors think of names on the cardio-monitoring space, Medtronic PLC (NYSE:MDT) and even General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) come to mind. Makes sense. Medtronic is the biggest name dedicated solely to equipment that tells doctors and nurses how well a patient’s heart is functioning, and GE Healthcare smartly leverages the name of its parent company’s recognizable name to win market share in the medical equipment space.

For traders, though, General Electric and Medtronic aren’t necessarily the top growth opportunity in the heart monitoring arena. That honor belongs to a young startup called Biotricity Inc. (OTCMKTS:BTCY), which is close to bearing its first-ever revenue.

Don’t look for a Biotricity product quite yet, as they’re not on the market. Consumers as well as investors may want to keep their eyes and ears open for two of them soon though, however, with one of those devices being a high-precision, FDA-approved instrument for use by healthcare workers in a clinical setting. The other device is a consumer-oriented version of the same technology, giving BTCY access to not just one but two crucial markets. Even more recently Biotricity reported it was opening up its development pipeline to the fetal monitoring and sleep apnea markets. Heart-monitoring is a near-term venture, though.

The two products are called biotricity and biolife; neither is capitalized. The latter is a wireless, remote consumer-oriented heart rate and activity monitoring device, and the former is a clinical-grade monitoring device… also wireless and remotely operated/monitored.

Bioflux is a medical wearable device, and is only available by prescription. The bioflux hardware includes an ECG (heart-rhythm) monitoring device, software and access to a monitoring lab. that performs remote diagnostic monitoring for up to 30 consecutive days. Medtronic is the biggest name dedicated solely to devices that tell healthcare providers how well a patient’s heart is functioning, while GE Healthcare leverages its well-known name and marketing firepower to hold on to a lot of in-hospital market share.

For investors though, General Electric and Medtronic aren’t necessarily the biggest and best growth opportunities. That title may well belong to an up-and-coming outfit called Biotricity Inc. (OTCMKTS:BTCY), which is very close to turning its first-ever revenue.

Back on March 1st, I wrote that Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE:RY) was “a great value” with shares down at $51. Today, US shares of Royal sit at $61, a significant appreciation in value over the last six months. Overall, that would be a gain of about 19%. Not bad at all.

Shares are significantly higher today. In addition, Royal Bank of Canada has since come out with its second quarter earnings. It also announced an increase of the quarterly dividend to $0.83 Canadian, another increase of 2%. That would represent an annualized increase of 5% on constant, Canadian dollars, because earlier it had increased its dividend once already. This article takes a look at Royal’s latest quarter as well as what investors can expect going forward

Top 10 Logistics Stocks To Invest In 2017: CGG(CGG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

First up is French oil service firm CGG Veritas (CGG)
. The Eurozone-based energy stock hasn’t exactly posted blockbuster performance in 2013, but investors who ignore CGG for the final stretch of the year could be making a big mistake. That’s because of a bullish technical pattern that’s emerging in shares right now.

CGG spent most of the last eight months looking anything but bullish. But an ascending triangle pattern is changing that. The pattern is formed by horizontal resistance to the upside at $26, and uptrending support to the below shares. Basically, as CGG bounces in between those two technical levels, it’s getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakout above $26. When that happens, traders have a buy signal.

The ascending triangle pattern in CGG Veritas isn’t exactly textbook. That’s because the setup is forming at the bottom of a downtrend, rather than in the middle of an uptrend – but it’s a mistake to get caught up on the textbook pictures of what trading patterns are supposed to look like. On a move through $26, the trading implications are just as actionable.

Top 10 Logistics Stocks To Invest In 2017: LaSalle Hotel Properties(LHO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Marshall Hargrave]

The other key benefit for Strategic is that it enjoys industry-leading earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) per available room. For 2012, Strategic generated $81 per room of EBITDA. Compare this to top comps LaSalle Hotel (NYSE: LHO) at $74 per room and Pebblebrook Hotel Trust (NYSE: PEB) at $71. The reason for this is that Strategic is much less reliant than its peers on rooms, with much greater exposure to food and beverages. Strategic earns 53% of its revenue from rooms, while its peers get around 66% of revenues from rooms.

Top 10 Logistics Stocks To Invest In 2017: Whiting Petroleum Corporation(WLL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

The $50/Bbl Question Is Answered In our June 2nd note entitled, Rethinking Risk/Reward on High Beta E&Ps, we highlighted that $50/Bbl is a critical level as it is around which many E&Ps have indicated they would begin either utilizing drilled-but-uncompleted (DUC) wells and/or increasing activity. Thus, with the NYMEX strip exceeding ~$50/Bbl in H216 and 2017, the question becomes, What will E&Ps do next? In our note we distinguished which oilier SMID Caps could organically accelerate at current NYMEX strip prices without further leveraging the balance sheet and which would still require higher oil prices. We ranked WPX third, behindOasis Petroleum (OAS) and Whiting Petroleum (WLL) in terms of its ability to accelerate through the drill-bit while keeping the balance sheet intact. For WPX we concluded that without increasing activity beyond our base case assumptions or higher oil prices, leverage would increase by 0.8x in 2017. However with accelerated activity and corresponding higher outspend (via more Williston DUCs and an addtl Permian rig), we forecast WPX could further grow production next year and keep leverage flattish at ~3.5x Net Debt/EBITDAX. We think todays announcements confirm our thesis, as WPX increased 2016 Williston activity and issued equity to facilitate this addtl spend plus potential activity acceleration in 2017/2018 without adding more debt.
