Top 10 Value Stocks To Buy Right Now: Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft (VLKAY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By ]

For example, FCA was the first to throw in the towel on “cars.” Ford is now following. Lately, brands such as Chevrolet (NYSE:GM), Toyota (NYSE:TM), Volkswagen (OTCPK:VLKAY) and Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) have professed their enduring commitment to sedans and similar “cars.” That’s probably true – at least directionally. Still, even those automakers will need to prune at least a little bit in their car/sedan portfolios over the next generational cycle, 5-10 years at the most. But the point is that they say they will not take as big of an axe to those offerings in the U.S. market, as FCA and Ford just did.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

To wit, the largest automotive factory in the world is considered to be Volkswagen’s (OTCPK:VLKAY) Wolfsburg plant, which has been in operation since around the time of World War II. It makes approximately 920,000 cars per year, including Golf, Tiguan and Touran.

  • [By ]

Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) shares were also on the back foot, falling 2.4% in Frankfurt and holding down gains for the DAX performance index after news late Thursday that former CEO Martin Winterkorn had been charged with conspiracy by the U.S. Department of Justice for his role in the firm’s diesel-gate scandal.

  • [By ]

That’s good news for the industry as a whole — ranging from Tesla to General Motors Co.  (GM) , Ford Motor Co.  (F) , Volkswagen (VLKAY) and others.

It is the painful truth Wall Street doesn’t want you to know. All that time you spent researching mutual funds and comparing star ratings in hopes of the finding a Warren Buffett was a waste. You would have been better off watching cat videos and creating memes to cyber shame United Airlines. You could have beaten 90% of mutual fund managers the past 15 years by investing in plain-vanilla index funds like SPDR S&P 500 ETF, Vanguard 500 Index Fund or Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund.

The SPIVA® U.S. Scorecard, issued by S&P Dow Jones Indices today, reveals the vast majority of mutual funds across the board fail to surpass their benchmarks in both the short and long term. Two-thirds of large-cap funds, 89% of mid-cap funds and 86% of small-cap funds lagged their indexes last year.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now: AVG Technolo gies N.V.(AVG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Igor Novgorodtsev]

InterActiveCorp (IACI) bought Ask.com for $1.85 billion in 2005. The new Perion will be worth only about 40% of that. After the merger, Perion will leapfrog its much larger rivals: Babylon and AVG (AVG). Finally, Perion should be able to increase its operating margins as it can spread its SG&A costs over a much larger base (Conduit EBITDA margin is 32% vs. Perion’s 23%). Perion will keep its senior management team intact: Josef Mandelbaum will remain its CEO and Yacov Kaufman its CFO. Perion has successfully orchestrated a roll-up acquisitions of privately-held Sweetpacks and Smilebox, so I have high confidence that they know how to integrate a new business.

Marathon Oil (MRO) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after oil tumbled after data pointed to higher inventories of crude.

Marathon Oildropped 8.7% to $14.87, while the S&P 500 fell 0.2% to 2,362.98, as Front Month Nymex Crude futures for April delivery slid 5.4% to $50.28., leading some to wonder if the price oil could drop below $50 a barrel.

It wasn’t just Marathon that got clipped as the eight worst-performing stocks in the S&P 500 came from the energy sector, including Murphy Oil (MUR), which fell 6.7% to $25.87, Devon Energy (DVN), which slid 6.5% to $40.72, and Chesapeake Energy (CHK), which stumbled 6.1% to $4.94. No surprise, then, that the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) slumped 2.6% to $69.65.

The oil rout began after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. oil inventories rose by 8.2 million barrels to reach $518.4 million, a record level.

Marathon Oil’s market capitalization fell to $12.6 billion today from $13.8 billion yesterday. It reported a net loss of $2.1 billion on sales of $4.1 billion in 2016.

Cramer said he tried to buck this trend by investing in EOG Resources (EOG) and Marathon Oil (MRO) but was wrong on both counts. In the case of EOG, even having the best properties wasn’t enough to ward off the collapse in oil prices. Meanwhile, Marathon’s decision to spin off its refining business left it with no cushion to stem its losses.

BeforeBayer(NASDAQOTH: BAYRY)arrived onto the scene, I viewedMonsanto(NYSE: MON)as an intriguing growth stock. It has a rich history of delivering value to shareholders and continues to hold a dominant technological edge over key competitors in crop protection products, seeds, and traits. While little has changed its promising pipeline and portfolio, the pending acquisition throws a wrench in anyone’s plans to start or add to a position. Uncertainty stemming from the merger provides several terrible reasons to buy Monsanto at this time.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now: American Airlines Group, Inc.(AAL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Oglenski assigned a $105 price target to United Continental, a $33 target to JetBlue, and a $122 target to Alaska Air. And even his equal weights, like America Airlines (AAL) and Southwest Airlines (LUV) have “material upside,” Oglenski says. He expects American to hit $62, and Southwest to hit $65.

A few years ago, Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) introduced a new class of cheaper “basic economy” fares to help it compete with ultra-low cost carriers on certain routes. Last year, American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) and United Continental (NYSE:UAL) confirmed that they would introduce their own basic economy fares to stay competitive.

American Airlines (AAL) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today.

The shares climbed $1.61, or 3.8%, to $43.93, compared to the S&P 500, which fell 3.38 points, or 0.14%, to 2353.78.

Investors cheered American Airlines increased first-quarter unit revenue and margin guidance.

The airline said it expects first-quarter total revenue per available seat mile to be up between 2% and 4% year over year, compared to previous guidance for a 1.5% to 3.5% increase. It expects adjusted pre-tax margins to be between 4% and 6%, compared to previous guidance of 3% to 5%.

For the month of March, it said that revenue passenger miles and available seat miles were down.

Fellow airline United Continental(UAL) also released March metrics today, although it down on the backlash to a video showing apassenger being dragged off a plane.

Shares of American Airlines (AAL) are soaring today after Stifel named the stock to Stifel Select List. But it’s the reason for Stifel’s optimism, more than the addition itself, that is eye catching.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

See, American Airlines has been under pressure this year–its dropped 11% so far in 2017–on fears that increased capacity would reduce its profitability. The same fears have also dented United Continental Holdings (UAL) and Delta Air Lines (DAL).

Stifel’s Joseph DeNardi and Matthew Rachal, however, argue that the increased capacity at American Airlines doesn’t matter thanks to a revenue stream that the market has ignored: The revenue from its frequent flier program. They explain why:

The consensus price target on American, excluding us at $95, of $54 reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the source of American’s earnings, in our view. Within American is an operating segment that accounts for ~50% of EBIT, is growing revenue at ~10% per year with a 65%-70% operating margin with very low capital requirements and very high barriers to entry. We know it exists. American Airlines knows it exists. But the vast majority of the investment community does not or, at this point, is skeptical that it does. We attribute this to a lack of information supplied by the companies for investors to properly assess the size and profitability of airline loyalty programs. We are confident that this will change in the near-to-mid term as disclosures begin to improve over the next several months followed by the reporting of the business as its own operating segment in 12-18 months.

How big a deal could this be? DeNardi and Rachal argue that the AAdvantage program could generate about $2.7 billion in 2018, greater than the $2.5 billion in pre-tax earnings implied by the consensus estimate of $3.50 a share in 2018. They call it “an earnings stream immune from incremental capac

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now: Galapagos NV(GLPG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Zeiler]

Bill Patalon’s initial stock pick was Galapagos NV (Nasdaq ADR: GLPG), a Belgian biotech company.

Patalon was attracted to Galapagos’ strategy to target “orphan diseases,” afflictions that strike rarely and so often go ignored by the Big Pharma companies. He also liked that Galapagos had more than 50 drug discovery programs underway, and that it already had licensing agreements with several bigger players in the industry.

  • [By Stephen Mack]

Galapagos NV (Nasdaq: GLPG) is our big winner so far, gaining 578.8% since Money Morning Executive Editor Bill Patalon shared his recommendation with Money Morning readers in April 2012. The S&P 500 has gained 75.4% in the same time. Bill has renewed his recommendation for the Belgian biotech several times over the years, saying in 2016 that it has “an established history of piling on gains.” With an average gain of 110% a year, it’s hard to argue with that.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now: Cerner Corporation(CERN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Cerner (CERN) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after meetings earnings forecasts but offering below-consensus guidance.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    Cerner dropped 4.4% to $51.50 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.4% to 2,316.10.

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s Sandy Draper and team contend that “most of the bad news is already priced in.” They explain:

Although we expect this news to weigh on the stock…we think the market has remained cautious on CERN shares heading into the 4Q16 print given the uneven execution throughout 2016 and the post-election regulatory uncertainty that has broadly weighed on the HCIT space as a whole. We observe that CERN shares closed about 3% below the level they traded at this time last year, while the S&P was up over 21% in that time. The muted 12-month performance in the stock suggests the market rightly anticipated unattractive year-end results and 2017 guidance, which suggests to us that downside to CERN shares should be limited.

Cerner’s market capitalization fell to $17.5 billion today from $18.3 billion yesterday.

Barron’s Vito Racanelli recommended shares of Cerner on March 16, 2016, when the stock traded at $51.46.

Canaccord Genuity’s Richard Close and Brian Hoffman contend Cerner may be “rediscovered its mojo.” They explain:

We reiterate our BUY rating and raise our PT to $66 (was $59) as the company finally
appears to have provided quarterly and annual targets that it can meet. Possibly more important, analyst expectations sit near the mid-point of guidance, portending upside potential. The outlook appears solid as the company (1) rebuilds a track record of delivering on expectations, (2) reaffirmed confidence in 2017 bookings growth, and (3) has a strengthened pipeline for ITWorks and revenue cycle. CERN may have rediscovered its mojo.

Cerner’s market capitalization rose to $21.4 billion today from $19.8 billion yesterday.

Families looking to trim college costs often steer their students toward public colleges in their home state instead of public colleges in another state or private institutions. Public colleges and universities typically charge two different tuition rates: one for state residents and another, much higher one for students from outside the state. The difference in sticker price (before financial aid awards are considered) is significant. During the 2015-16 academic year, the average annual sticker priceincluding tuition, fees and room and boardfor an in-state student attending a four-year public college was $19,548. The average annual sticker price for an out-of-state student attending a four-year public college was $34,031.

quot stock: The Michaels Companies, Inc.(MIK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Guggenheim’sJohn Heinbockel and team argue that a “purging of space is necessary” in retail, and recommend hiding in “industry leaders who canprofitably gain share and are not especially expensive,” like Michaels (MIK), Tractor Supply (TSCO), Restoration Hardware (RH), Kroger (KR),and US Foods Holding (USFD). They explain:

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We rate MICHAELS COS INC as a Sell with a ratings score of D+. This is driven by some concerns, which we believe should have a greater impact than any strengths, and could make it more difficult for investors to achieve positive results compared to most of the stocks we cover. Among the areas we feel are negative, one of the most important has been weak operating cash flow.

  • [By Jim Cramer]

The company, on the basis of net income growth from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly outperformed against the S&P 500 and exceeded that of the Specialty Retail industry average. The net income increased by 20.0% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, going from $64.00 million to $76.80 million.

  • [By Lisa Levin]

Michaels Companies Inc (NASDAQ: MIK) reported better-than-expected results for its fiscal fourth quarter.

Michaels Companies posted quarterly earnings of $183.7 million, or $0.87 per share, compared to $146.4 million, or $0.75 per share, in the year-ago period.

  • [By Jim Cramer]

42.37% is the gross profit margin for MICHAELS COS INC which we consider to be strong. Regardless of MIK’s high profit margin, it has managed to decrease from the same period last year. Despite the mixed results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of 6.57% trails the industry average.

MICHAELS COS INC has improved earnings per share by 19.4% in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($1.70 versus $1.04).

  • [By Jim Cramer]

After a year of stock price fluctuations, the net result is that MIK’s price has not changed very much. Although its weak earnings growth may have played a role in this flat result, don’t lose sight of the fact that the performance of the overall market, as measured by the S&P 500 Index, was essentially similar. Turning toward the future, the fact that the stock has come down in price over the past year should not necessarily be interpreted as a negative; it could be one of the factors that may help make the stock attractive down the road. Right now, however, we believe that it is too soon to buy.

Wendy Maeda/The Boston Globe via Getty Images NEW YORK — Walgreen is moving 120,000 employees to a private health insurance exchange from coverage provided directly from carriers, the company will announce Wednesday. The pharmacy chain will join 17 other large employers on the Aon Hewitt Corporate Health Exchange as part of a growing movement to offer employees fixed dollar amounts to purchase their own plans on such exchanges. The end-cost to employees depends on the plan chosen, but they typically get more options than under traditional arrangements. Private exchanges mimic the coverage mandated as part of the Affordable Care Act. Enrollment in the public exchanges starts Oct. 1. “What happens to employer contributions over time? Will they put in as much as they put in the past? These are unanswered questions but potential negatives,” says Paul Fronstin, a senior research associate with the Employee Benefit Research Institute. The benefit to Walgreen and other employers is unknown at this point, as their cost-savings aren’t clear. Of the 180,000 Walgreen (WAG) employees eligible for health care insurance, 120,000 opted for coverage for themselves and 40,000 family members. Another 60,000 employees, many of them working part-time, weren’t eligible for health insurance. Aon Hewitt (AON) says other participants in its program include retailer Sears Holding (SHLD) and Darden Restaurants (DRI). These new additions raise enrollment to 330,000 from 100,000 last year, and Aon Hewitt estimates enrollment will jump to 600,000 next year, a fivefold increase from 2012. By 2017, nearly 20 percent of employees nationwide could get their health insurance through a private exchange, according to Accenture Research (ACN). A recent report by the National Business Group on Health said that 30 percent of large employers are considering moving active employees to exchanges by 2015. Other major providers of private exchanges include Mercer, a division of Marsh & Mc

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Own For 2017: LinkedIn Corporation(LNKD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By The Ticker Tape]

TWTR has enjoyed a 30% rally since early June, when Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced its $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD). Where’s the, well, link? Some traders were thinking that if social media was in a consolidation mode, TWTR might be next. But there’s been no deal.

  • [By Andres Cardenal]

The most powerful investment ideas are the ones that can be easily explained and understood. LinkedIn(LNKD) is an undisputed market leader in remarkably promising areas such as professional networking and online employment opportunities, and this makes the company a top name to buy in 2016 and hold for years to come.

As of the third quarter of 2015, LinkedIn(LNKD) had 396 million registered members around the world, a big increase of 20% versus the same quarter the previous year, and 39,726 corporate solutions customers on the platform, a year-over-year increase of 31%. Individuals and corporations attract each other to LinkedIn in search of opportunities, and this creates a virtuous cycle driving sustainable growth over the long term.

Management is also translating the company’s massive opportunities into rapid revenue growth. Total sales grew 37% to $780 million last quarter, with the acquisition of online learning platform lynda.com representing $41 million of that. LinkedIn’s three growth engines are firing on all cylinders: Talent solutions for corporations grew 46%, while premium subscription sales increased 21%, and online advertising revenue jumped 28%.

LinkedIn(LNKD) is actively investing for growth, so profit margins are hard to predict in the short term. However, the company should be able to combine solid revenue growth and expanding profit margins in the years ahead.

  • [By Cameron Saucier]

On Feb. 3, 2015, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) analysts decided to add LinkedIn Corp. (NYSE: LNKD), the social media site for professionals and job seekers, to their “conviction buy” list.

Finally, some more popular stocks that saw net selling over July included Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM), Sprint Corp (NYSE: S) and LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD).
