Hot Dividend Stocks To Own For 2019: ConocoPhillips(COP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

As things stand right now, analysts anticipate that at least some Iranian oil will come off the market as a result of the sanctions. That lost output would further tighten an oil market that suddenly has little margin for error thanks to red-hot demand and tame supply growth. That’s the recipe for higher oil prices and could make top-tier U.S. oil stocks Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) big winners in the coming years.

  • [By Chris Lange]

The number of ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) shares short dropped to 18.27 million from the previous level of 21.33 million. Shares were trading at $70.01 within a 52-week range of $42.27 to $71.71.

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Investors in search of dividend income will quickly notice that ExxonMobil Corporation’s (NYSE:XOM) 3.9% yield dwarfs the 1.8% dividend yield offered by ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP). That, however, isn’t the biggest reason dividend investors should prefer Exxon stock. Here’s what you need to know to understand why Exxon is a better dividend stock than ConocoPhillips.

  • [By Chris Lange]

The number of ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) shares short rose slightly to 21.33 million from the previous level of 21.01 million. Shares were trading at $64.79, within a 52-week range of $42.27 to $71.71.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

ConocoPhillips’ (NYSE:COP) management team has worked tirelessly in recent years to transform the oil company into one that could thrive on lower prices. As a result, itcashed in during the first quarterwhen crude was well above its baseline plan. That strong showing sets the company up for continued success in the coming year — a key theme running through management’s comments on the accompanying conference call, which detailed recent achievements and how they frame what lies ahead.

Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: Marathon Oil Corporation(MRO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Saudi Aramco’s valuation, however, isn’t the only one that would benefit from a pop in the price of crude. Many oil producers in the U.S. restructured their operations to run on $50 oil, so if the Saudi strategy is successful, these oil companies would produce a gusher of cash flow, which could fuel high-octane gains for investors. While that rise would likely lift the entire sector, Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) and Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO)could outperform in that scenario.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Marathon Oil Corporation’s (NYSE:MRO) transformation into a shale-focused oil growth company is starting to pay dividends. That was evident in the second quarter as the company reported strong production results across all four of its U.S. resource plays. Because of that, the oil producer was able to boost its full-year growth forecast for the second time this year without increasing its capital budget.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

That prediction would have been unfathomable just a few months ago. While some oil bulls thought prices could surprise to the upside, the consensus outlook was that crude would be in the low to mid $50s this year thanks to surging U.S. oil production. Because of that, most producers based their budgets on oil averaging $50 a barrel, includingEOG Resources (NYSE:EOG), Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), and Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC). In EOG Resources’ case, $50 oil would provide it with the cash flow to pay a dividend that was 10.4% higher than 2017’s level and drill 690 more wells, which would boost oil production about 18%. Meanwhile, Marathon Oil could produce enough cash at that price point to pay its dividend and fund the new wells needed to boost companywide output 12% compared to last year. Anadarko Petroleum, likewise, could fully fund its dividend and a growth-focused capital plan, which would see it boost oil output 14% this year.

You’ve heard all about the bottlenecks in domestic distribution. Now, you’ve heard Secretary Mnuchin talk about production. Still, we have to get this stuff to market. • [By Dan Caplinger]

Friday was a down day on Wall Street, but losses were generally small, and the market closed well above its lowest levels of the session. Initially, investors seemed concerned about further trade tensions between the U.S. and China, but upon further reflection, they appeared to draw comfort from considerable fundamental strength from key sectors of the industrial economy. Even with the overall market recovering from earlier weakness, some stocks still posted substantial declines. Whiting Petroleum (NYSE:WLL), Global Blood Therapeutics (NASDAQ:GBT), and First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

  • [By Logan Wallace]

Shares of Whiting Petroleum Corp (NYSE:WLL) have been given an average rating of “Buy” by the thirty-two ratings firms that are presently covering the stock, MarketBeat reports. Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: Encana Corporation(ECA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Today, however, many drillers are setting a high bar for new wells. EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG) has been one of the leaders in disrupting the former way of thinking by establishing a high return hurdle rate for new wells of 30% after-tax at $40 oil. Others followed with similar return-focused approaches, including Encana (NYSE:ECA), which needs locations to achieve a 35% after-tax return at $50 oil to meet its premium hurdle rate.

Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: Williams Partners L.P.(WPZ)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

There’s an interesting dichotomy here, however. Crestwood was looking to stay financially disciplined, but it also needed to invest to grow. Doing both at the same time is difficult, which is why it partnered up with Con Ed in the Marcellus region, Shell Midstream Partners LP (NYSE:SHLX) and First Reserve in the Delaware Basin, and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) in the Powder River basin. These agreements allow Crestwood to keep expanding its business without having to foot the entire bill for the investments.

The stock market stayed in a pretty narrow range on Thursday, climbing early in the session but then slowly drifting lower through the afternoon hours. In the absence of major news, investors largely looked forward to key events like trade negotiations among the world’s largest economies. Other financial markets saw mixed moves as well, with 10-year Treasury yields climbing above 3.1% while oil prices stayed comfortably above $70 per barrel. Despite the quiet day, some companies had good news that pushed their shares sharply higher. World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE:WWE), Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK), and Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) were among the best performers on the day. Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: Magellan Midstream Partners L.P.(MMP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

To put a number on its distribution growth, Phillips 66 Partners has increased its disbursement for 16 consecutive quarters (every quarter since its IPO) at a compound annual growth rate of 31%. That’s roughly the target it laid out for its first five years as a public entity. That is, of course, off of a low starting base. The year-over-year increase in the first-quarter distribution was around 20% — still a very impressive number when peers like Enterprise and Magellan Midstream Partners(NYSE:MMP) are offering up mid-to-high single-digit increases. (Kinder Morgan’s dividend growth will be huge in the coming years, but that’s a function of increasing the dividend after a painful cut.)

  • [By Tyler Crowe, Matthew DiLallo, and Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Fortunately for those looking at these attractive valuations, oil’s end-of-days scenario is likely a ways down the road. So we asked three Fool.com contributors to highlight a stock they see in the oil industry right now that looks attractive. Here’s why they picked Plains All American Pipeline (NYSE:PAA), Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC), and Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE:MMP).

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Meanwhile, the return multiples for many of the projects under development by Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE:MMP) are in the six- to eight-times EBITDA range. Because of that, the $1.7 billion of expansion projects Magellan currently has underway only will generate about $250 million in incidental EBITDA. That’s partially why Magellan Midstream expects to grow its payout at a slower pace of 8% this year and a 5% to 8% annual rate in 2019 and 2020, even though it plans on paying out the same percentage of its cash flow as ONEOK.

Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: ConocoPhillips(COP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

The sheer size of Devon’s buyback has the potential to move the stock meaningfully higher over the next year, given what similar repurchase programs have done for rivals in the recent past. In late 2016, ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) announced plans to repurchase $3 billion in shares that it would fund by selling assets. The company completed that authorization last year and added another $2 billion to the program for 2018.

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) is one of a growing number of oil producers that is reevaluating its drilling plans in the Permian Basin because of the region’s looming pipeline shortage. Among the options it’s considering is redeploying at least some of its resources out of the Basin until new pipes start up toward the end of next year. While that could affect its growth prospects in the near term, it also might provide the company with the opportunity to enhance its longer-term growth potential in the region.

Top 10 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now: Apache Corporation(APA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Oil prices have continued rebounding this year, with the U.S. benchmark price WTI up another 7% to around $65 per barrel. That improving oil price has helped drive up most oil stocks. I say most because Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), Apache (NYSE:APA), and Newfield Exploration (NYSE:NFX) are flat to down so far this year because investors seem to have overlooked them entirely. Because of that, they trade for a dirt-cheap valuation versus their peers, making them intriguing options to consider.

  • [By VantagePoint]

Apache Corporation (NYSE: APA) has been ripping since March 2nd, when it hit a two-year low of $33.60. Since then it's up 25 percent.

The three-month chart below shows that this trend is likely to continue. The blue line is generated via VantagePoint's intermarket analysis, and represents a prediction of what APA's moving average will be in three days. The black line is a simple 10-day moving average. Note the bullish crossover that occurred in early March. That was a signal that the stock was entering an uptrend.

  • [By ]

Now, I haven’t dabbled in U.S. shale oil or in the permian basin since I extracted myself from Apache (APA) several months ago after an epic fight in the name of capital preservation. But The Wall Street Journal ran a piece last week explaining that due to already-mentioned distribution bottlenecks, Permian-basin oil prices had fallen below $60 a barrel despite the fact that WTI futures were trading above $70.

Frankly, today’s big drop shouldn’t be a surprise for anyone. The company told us many months agothat common equity investors would only retain 2% — at most — of the company when it completed its bankruptcy proceedings, yet investors continued to pay a price for its stock that, at one point, would have made Seadrill worth nearly as much as competitorsTransocean(NYSE:RIG),Diamond Offshore(NYSE:DO),andNoble Corporation(NYSE:NE)combined. But a relatively steady decline in the share price, combined with today’s big drop, seems to be finally putting Seadrill more in line with its peers.

Hot Heal Care Stocks For 2019

Friday was a good day on Wall Street, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average once again climbing triple digits and other major benchmarks following suit with similar-sized percentage gains. The U.S. economy continued to move forward last month, and the latest jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed ongoing progress in creating new positions and reducing unemployment rates. Yet some stocks weren’t able to join in the celebration that accompanied the strong economic report. Petroleo Brasileiro (NYSE:PBR), Golar LNG Partners (NASDAQ:GMLP), and Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE:ANF) were among the worst performers on the day. Here’s why they did so poorly.

Petrobras deals with a departure

Shares of Petroleo Brasileiro plunged nearly 15% as the Brazilian state-controlled oil giant dealt with the sudden resignation of its chief executive officer. CEO Pedro Parente’s departure comes after a long strike by Brazilian truckers, who were upset about a sudden rise in diesel fuel prices within the South American nation. Historically, Brazil has had more vigorous price controls that have often led to energy products being available at below global market costs, but Parente had supported a more market-based approach. Now, shareholders fear that government policy could once again hold back Petrobras from maximizing its potential to generate revenue and profit in the face of rising crude prices.

Hot Heal Care Stocks For 2019: ConocoPhillips(COP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Oil driller ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) is benefiting from rising oil prices and rewarding investors with dividend hikes. However, the company’s drilling-focused business hasn’t been able to sustain a high dividend in the past, cutting the payment in 2016 amid low oil prices. This suggests that dividend investors will end up disappointed if highly volatile oil prices fall again. Here are two stocks with higher yields today and strong histories of rewarding investors through good times and bad: ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) and The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG).

  • [By Chris Lange]

The number of ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) shares short dropped to 17.34 million from the previous level of 18.27 million. Shares were trading at $68.71, within a 52-week range of $42.27 to $71.71.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) has been one of the best-performing oil stocks in the market recovery. One of the fuels driving its outperformance has been the company’s efforts to reshape its portfolio. Those actions not only brought in some cash to pay off debt and buy back stock but have sharpened its focus on its best assets.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

With the mixed signals coming out of OPEC, oil prices could be quite volatile until the organization makes it clear what it intends to do. That could have an effect on financially weaker oil companies that desperately need higher oil prices to provide them with extra cash to firm up their financial foundations. Stronger producers, on the other hand, should continue to do well no matter what OPEC decides since they built their businesses to thrive at much lower oil prices. Three that stand out are ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), and EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG).

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

According to a recent report by Reuters, ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) has held talks with investment banks about helping the company unload its stake in Cenovus Energy (NYSE:CVE). That sale could net the oil giant more than $2 billion in cash, which would bolster its already sizable cash war chest and give it more money to allocate in creating value for investors.

Hot Heal Care Stocks For 2019: Pacific Gas & Electric Co.(PCG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) dropped more than 18% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $41.61 after closing at $51.12 on Wednesday. The 52-week high is $71.57. Volume was around 47 million, nearly 8 times the daily average of around 6 million. The giant utility suspended its quarterly dividend this morning in order to set aside funds to deal with potential liability resulting from wildfires earlier this year in Northern California.

  • [By Maxx Chatsko]

Many major utilities are now ramping up investments in cost-saving, margin-boosting energy efficiency programs. In fact, there’s a strong correlation between the most ambitious renewable energy investment strategies and energy efficiency programs. Some utilities have a lot of catching up to do.

Xcel Energy (NASDAQ:XEL) has saved 13,000 GWh of electricity consumption across its network over the years, including 9,000 GWh since 2005. The company has an ambitious plan to retire coal-fired power plants and build new wind and solar power capacity, which, when coupled with energy efficiency, could allow it to generate 45% of its electricity from renewables in 2027. Additionally, fuel-related expenses would drop from 47% of capital investments in 2010 to just 28% in 2027. That would free up more cash flow for dividends or growth projects — or both. PG&E (NYSE:PCG) recently filed a plan to retire an aging fossil fuel power plant with distributed solar and energy efficiency programs, as discussed on a recent quarterly conference call with investors. The utility also offers some of the most ambitious customer rebates in the country, with up to $5,500 per household. Southern Company (NYSE:SO) has saved 2,700 GWh of electricity consumption across its network since 2000. By 2020, it will have invested $1 billion total in energy efficiency programs, although that lags well behind more ambitious peers. Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) was ranked second to last among all utilities in the country in energy efficiency by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. That leaves plenty of room for improvement. A recent report suggests it’s possible to reduce new home energy consumption in Virginia (the company’s home state) by 60%, saving the utility billions in capital investments in the next decade by avoiding the need to build new facilities. Those efforts could also save customers $1.7 billion, but the utility’s most recent plan does not prioritize energy efficien

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2019

When World War II ended, no industry was stronger or more important than American steel.

But over the last 60 years, the industry has suffered a steady decline, becoming less competitive and far less central to the US economy.

Immediately after the war, the global demand for steel was more voracious than ever. Mills owned by foreign competitors had been devastated by the bombings. Cities in Europe and Asia needed to rebuild, and American cities were growing rapidly as well. Demand for new cars was great, and the Interstate Highway was under construction.

America’s steel mills were producing steel at a furious pace, making more than half the world’s steel in the late 1940s, and about 40% of the world’s steel throughout the 1950s.

In the 10 years starting in 1948, American steel mills averaged nearly 700,000 workers. Today only 83,000 people still work in the nation’s steel mills.

Manufacturing changes

Part of that decline is due to much more efficient processes. The basic oxygen furnaces and continuous casters now in use can make steel using a fraction of the work, energy and manpower required by open hearth furnaces the industry used during its heyday.

While those issues led many oil companies to abandon Alaska over the years, ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) was one of a handful that remained committed to the state’s oil potential. Last year, net income dropped from $146.4 million to $101.2 million, creating the sharp trend line seen above. The 2017 earnings dip can be traced to numerous factors, including higher interest expense, a reduction in tanker income, fewer ships in the fleet on charter to former parent Frontline Shipping (NYSE:FRO), and the bankruptcy filing of Seadrill Ltd. (NYSE:SDRL). Seadrill’s reorganization has impacted Ship Finance’s offshore revenue, as it has three out of four offshore drilling rigs on charter to affiliates of Seadrill.

Top 10 Energy Stocks To Watch For 2019: Enbridge Inc(ENB)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Ever since Enbridge (NYSE:ENB) purchased Spectra Energy early last year, Spectra Energy Partners (NYSE:SEP) has been the best-performing subsidiary in its portfolio — and last quarter, it posted yet another set of solid results. For investors in Spectra Energy Partners, though, these strong earnings may be all for naught, as Enbridge is preparing to roll all of its subsidiaries up into the parent company in a way that may not be particularly beneficial to shareholders.

Top Oil Stocks To Buy For 2019

The average U.S. price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose by about two cents last week to start the new week at $2.97, according to the latest data from GasBuddy. Pump prices reached that level last Friday ahead of the Memorial Day holiday and have held steady through the weekend.

Month over month, the price is up about 15.5 cents a gallon and is more than 59 cents a gallon higher year over year. Last month the national average was $2.81, while the year-ago average was $2.37.

While expectations may have been for higher prices over the holiday weekend, the reported increase in oil production from OPEC and its partners, including Russia, sent crude prices tumbling by about $5 a barrel over the weekend, and the downtrend continues Monday.

Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said:

As the summer driving season gets underway, there’s reason to be optimistic and perhaps happy: OPEC appears ready to raise crude oil production to meet higher global demand, dashing at least for now, the likelihood of seeing the national average hit that ugly $3/gallon mark. For now, the national average peaked just under that level and prices are now starting to move ever-so-slowly lower, but more drops are coming. Crude oil dropped to $66.84 per barrel in electronic trading last night, representing a $5 per barrel loss in less than a week. I can confidently say that gas prices will be moving lower this week and perhaps into next week, so long as nothing comes out of left field to derail the plummet in oil prices. Motorists beware, however, the fall in gas prices will be slow to arrive at some stations and quick at others, so before gleefully filling up, check if you’re getting the best deal in the area.

Top Oil Stocks To Buy For 2019: ConocoPhillips(COP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Oil prices have been on fire over the past year and recently topped $70 a barrel, which is the highest crude has been since late 2014. That rally in the oil market has helped fuel big-time gains in many oil stocks. Three that stand out are Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC), Hess (NYSE:HES), and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) because each has risen more than 20% this year. They might still have additional upside from here given that all three plan on spending billions of dollars to buy back more of their stock.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Marathon pointed out that it can achieve this higher production rate without increasing its capital budget, which remains at $2.3 billion. That’s worth noting since large peers ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) and Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC) recently increased their budgets. In both cases, two factors drove the spending boost: Cost inflation and a ramp-up in activity from some drilling partners. Marathon, on the other hand, has been able to keep spending on target while boosting output at a faster pace through increased efficiency. In fact, the company noted that it was able to reduce its rig count in the DelawareBasin from five to four entirely due to efficiency gains while still anticipating that it can complete 50 to 55 wells in the region. While both ConocoPhillips and Anadarko are also delivering efficiency gains, they haven’t been enough to offset a spending increase.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) has worked hard to differentiate itself from other oil companies by focusing on creating value for investors as opposed to growing at all costs. That plan continued paying dividends during the first quarter, as the company blew past expectations. That strong showing sets the U.S. oil giant up for an exceptional year.

Top Oil Stocks To Buy For 2019: Marathon Oil Corporation(MRO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Tyler Crowe]

Back in 2011, Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO) elected to spin off Marathon Petroleum. At the time, much of the reasoning for the split was that both entities would garner higher valuations than as an integrated company. Also, by separating them, both could best allocate capital to grow shareholder value.

  • [By Zacks]

Oil production is surging in Canada but producers are far from happy as their profit margin is sinking and they are striving to stay competitive with their U.S. counterparts. While upstream companies like Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO), Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) and others are enjoying the shale boom and rebound in prices in the United States, their Canadian counterparts like Cenovus Energy Inc. (NYSE: CVE) and others are thinking of reducing production. The primary reason behind this is the shortage of pipelines in the country. In short, pipeline construction in Canada has failed to keep pace with rising domestic oil production – the heavier sour variety churned out of the oil sands –  resulting in infrastructural bottlenecks. This has also forced producers to give away their products at a discounted rate.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), likewise, said it would stick with its $2.3 billion drilling budget, which is enough money to grow oil and gas production in the U.S. by 25% to 30% versus last year. Because of that capital discipline, Marathon is on pace to produce more than $500 million in excess cash this year, and that’s assuming crude averages $60 a barrel.

Williams Companies (NYSE:WMB) was off to a great start in 2018 thanks to the growth of its majority-owned master limited partnership,Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ). There’s plenty more where that came from, which was clear from the comments of CEO Alan Armstrong on the accompanying quarterly conference call. While he didn’t fill in every detail about what lies ahead, he made sure investors knew that the company’s future looks bright.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

Natural gas pipeline giant Williams Companies (NYSE:WMB) announced today that it agreed to acquire the rest of its master limited partnership (MLP) Williams Partners (NYSE:WPZ) that it didn’t already own in a $10.5 billion deal. Not to be outdone, Canadian energy infrastructure giant Enbridge (NYSE:ENB) made an offer to acquire its namesake MLP Enbridge Energy Partners (NYSE:EEP), along with the rest of its publicly traded entities, including Spectra Energy Partners (NYSE:SEP). These transactions have big implications not only for investors in these entities but for those who own other pipeline companies, too.
